“I know who you fucked the other night.”
Iker blinked, checked the caller ID once more, and cleared his throat while feeling a burning sensation in his cheeks.
“I beg your pardon?”
“I know who you had a good time with before you came back downstairs. God, Iker do you think we’re all stupid?” The familiar and, more often than not, annoying voice of Gerard Pique crackled into his ear.
“Am I supposed to congratulate your fine detective skills? Or reward the ramblings of a nutcase?” Iker sighed and rolled onto his back to consult his bedside clock. Eleven in the morning; Iker groaned and began to scratch his chest.
“Oh don’t worry Iker, I don’t care about him. I just want to know why you were screwing around with him when you obviously fancy Bojan.”
At the boy’s name, Iker stilled his hand and swallowed. So Gerard’s curiosity was mixing with his role as the concerned friend. Iker sighed and pulled the sheet back over his head.
“Do we really have to do this now?” Iker groaned.
“When it concerns my best friend, yes we do. I just want to know why you did that Iker. I don’t judge, you know me. I love everybody.” Gerard’s amused tone had Iker rolling his eyes. It was too early in the day to have to deal with him.
“It wasn’t…planned okay? It just sort of happened.” Iker said after a moment’s pause. “I ran into him on the way back down and he looked, well, you know how he is when he gets pissed off.”
“So it just happened, there’s no warm fuzzy feelings towards him?”
“I’m not going to run away with him into the sunset, if that’s what you’re asking.”
Gerard was silent for a few moments. Iker guessed that he was probably thinking, something that could be potentially dangerous given the current conversation. Finally, he heard Gerard shift and then his voice was back in his ear.
“So what are you going to do about Bo?”
Iker closed his eyes. He’d hoped that that question wouldn’t come up.
“I don’t know. I don’t even know if he’s interested.” He laughed humorlessly at the end. It was the truth. Bojan was just a kid, so young. Why would Bojan be interested in an aging footballer like him anyway?
“He is, move on. What are you going to do?”
Iker blinked. “What?”
“He’s interested. What are you going to do?”
Iker hesitated. “Hold on, how do you know he’s interested?”
“It’s obvious Iker. Just spend some time around him and you can pick up on it fairly quickly. Now what are you going to do?”
Iker sighed at the impatient tone in Gerard’s voice. He was tired, confused, a little frustrated, and he just wanted to go back to sleep for several more hours and then figure out what he was going to do about his feelings.
“I don’t know Pique, but when I figure it out Bojan will be the first to know.”
Iker pressed the button to cancel the call and held it down to power the phone off. He then tossed the phone on the other side of the bed and turned onto his side. He closed his eyes and let the thought of a smiling green-eyed Catalan boy fill his mind.
He smiled and felt himself falling back to sleep.
“Well that was rude!” Gerard stared at the phone and Carles raised an eyebrow from where he sat next to him in the conference room.
“What did you expect? A warm reception from him?”
“No, but still he didn’t have to hang up on me. How rude!”
Carles shook his head and hid his smile by taking another sip of his coffee. “What did he say when you confronted him about the other night?”
“He shrugged it off. ‘It just happened’, he said. Just happened. How do you ‘just happen’ to fuck someone? I mean it’s not like you can trip and land on some guy’s co—hey coach, how’s it going?”
Pep gave Gerard a look over and shook his head. “Gerard, sometimes you really worry me.”
“Sometimes you really worry me too Pep.”
Pep gave him a side-eyed warning look as he turned and continued on his way. He moved on to the next pair that caught his eye, his two favorite midfielders.
Gerard looked away from Xavi and Andres and back to Carles.
“Tell me though, how can it ‘just happen’?”
Carles opened his mouth to reply when Bojan interrupted by walking into the room with Leo. Gerard saw them and turned away to watch them. Bojan was laughing at something Leo was saying. Leo was smiling back at him and for a moment, Gerard wondered about the pair of them.
He dismissed the thought quickly. Bojan would’ve told him about it. But Leo on the other hand…
Gerard stiffened when he saw who walked in right behind Leo and Bojan. He nudged Carles arm and nodded subtly towards the door.
“That’s the one who… oh no.” Carles saw the dark look on the man’s face and suddenly was worried about the close proximity to Bojan. “I think we’ll be having Bojan over a lot more over at our place, what do you think Geri?”
Gerard nodded and stood up. “Be right back.”
He walked over towards Bojan and Leo, a half-forced smile on his face. “Hey guys! How about a nice joke with me and Carles? We have a funny story about last night for you.”
Bojan and Leo exchanged glances; for a moment, Gerard was envious of such in-depth communication by only a look. Then he remembered why he had come over to interrupt in the first place.
“Hey David! How’s your boyfriend?” Gerard asked with false enthusiasm. The dark glaring look that came his way told him that maybe he wasn’t so bad at the silent communication after all.
Bojan’s eyebrows raised and he turned to the famed Asturian striker. “You have a boyfriend?”
Villa’s eyes were dark and cold as they looked Bojan over. The boy even noticed and automatically took a step backwards, closer to Leo and Geri.
“We broke up.” Villa supplied shortly.
Bojan’s look grew concerned and he moved forward to touch David’s arm. “I’m so sorry.”
The three watched as David moved back quickly, as if Bojan’s touch had burned him. His cold eyes grew darker as fire burned inside him.
“Don’t talk to me kid. What do you know of such things?”
Villa didn’t wait for an answer before he brushed past Bojan towards the door. He hit Bojan hard enough with his shoulder that Bojan stumbled.
With wide green eyes, Bojan looked at Gerard. “What did I do?”
Geri sighed and put his arm around Bojan and pulled him into a hug. “You didn’t do anything wrong Bojan. He’s just cranky cause Pepe dumped him.”
Bojan frowned. “Pepe…Reina?” His eyes widened in surprise when Gerard nodded. “Wow…but, Iker said he was with Silva…?”
Gerard pulled Bojan, and effectively Leo as well, towards Carles. “Puyi, tell the dear sweet boy why Villa and Silva are no longer Villa and Silva and how Pepe became his boyfriend. Er well, ex-boyfriend.”
Carles shrugged one of his muscular shoulders. “Silva went to Manchester, Villa didn’t like it but there wasn’t really anything he could do about it. Pepe was there to help calm Villa down. Now I wonder who’s going to calm him down now…”
Bojan frowned in confusion but leaned in responsively towards Leo when the Argentine went to hug him.
“Don’t worry about it Bo, it’s not our problem.” Leo offered kindly. “Besides, we’re supposed to be happy. You’re coming over to mine this afternoon. Aren’t you?”
Bojan nodded. “Of course I am.”
Leo beamed brightly and hugged him tighter.
Gerard watched the both of them and wondered just how friendly Leo wanted to be with Bojan that afternoon.
