The dark green of the silk sheets contrasted sharply with the paleness of her body. She lay naked on the bed, what little of herself she covered was due to the sheet having wound its way around her body somewhere in the process of their lovemaking. She watched her lover straightening the white silk shirt that was a signature part of his wardrobe, and had been for centuries. She stretched across the bed and felt pleasantly sated; that was until she caught sight of the time on the old wind-up clock on the mantle of the fireplace in her rooms. She sighed a little in annoyance.

“Only another hour to go before I must rest. And I was so enjoying this evening.”

Amelia saw him smile from across the room and took in the view of his naked backside. She smiled, pleased at the sight of him still without trousers. She liked to look at him almost as much as she liked to feel him over and, especially, under her.

“As was I, my dear. But I will see you soon. When you return to the estate.”

The last part of his statement caused her to raise her eyebrow. “I will return when I desire to, not before.”

Andris straightened and reached for his trousers and began to slide them on to her dismay. “I miss the days when you did as I instructed without question.”

Amelia felt a twinge of annoyance flutter across her nerves. Without question, meaning, ordered. “You are not my Master any longer, Andris.”

“I am well aware of this fact, my dear.” He stated simply and finished buttoning his trousers. “I bid you good day and a pleasant rest.”

If this would not have been the last time she would see him for an unknown time, she would have held that flash of annoyance and would have used it against him for her own benefit. She would have pouted a little until he gave in to any wish she desired. She would have kept him in her rooms the entire day long, using him for her own pleasure.

As it was, she instead ignored her pettiness for a moment and rose from the bed, naked but for the sheet she held against her skin.

She moved across the room until she was standing right before him and she kissed him, softly at first but the kiss intensified quickly. Soon, one of Andris’ hands held tightly to her waist and the other was wound in her dark hair. He pulled her frame against his and kissed her as deeply as he would before any other interlude to their mating.

They had always had a spark that existed between them. It had been what first attracted Andris to her in the first place all those years ago. At first it had been simple carnal pleasure that kept her firmly placed in his bed, or wherever else he decided to ravish her. But then she had used her mind, her always clever little mind, to lure him into a comfortable companionship that had caused him to make her his Match. His partner; his equal.

Unlike many of the other times before it, though, Andris did pull himself away after only a few minutes of fevered kisses.

“I am returning to the estate tonight after I rest. Join me, if you like.” He murmured against her lips and held her in place against him.

Amelia shook her head, her dark hair sliding along her shoulders. She absently noted the look of disappointment that quickly moved across his face and filed it away for study later. “I will return for a visit when I am ready. The country does not attract me the same as it does for you.”

Andris sighed softly against her lips before he pulled away entirely. “I am entirely aware of your love for the lights and sounds of the city. I do not understand it, but I am aware of it. Good day my dear.”

“Goodbye, Andris.” She replied softly and watched as he left her rooms without a sound.
She waited a moment, staring at the place she had last seen him, and tried to place the emotions she felt.

There were the obvious ones of unfulfilled desire, the lust she seemingly always felt, and disappointment that he would leave her alone and not stay the day with her. Mixed with those were the ones she did not like to think about. The ones that suggested she still had a strong attachment, perhaps a connection, to her former Master. She turned her head away from the door and closed her eyes.

No. She would not allow herself that attachment again. It was dangerous.

Amelia let the sheet fall from her body so that she stood naked in the middle of the room. She looked down at her pale skin, admired herself in her own unique perfection, before she crossed the room to the old oak wardrobe and pulled from within it the silk nightgown she used when she did not have a guest to stay the day in bed with her.

Once she was redressed, she moved through the rooms that she called home and began to lock every window and then pull the drapes shut for them. The silver and dark green velvet draperies were heavy under her hands but this was a practice she did with the ease of routine. Once every drapery had been pulled, she moved to the front door and locked the five different locks she had installed on the door. She slid the last lock into place and moved into the dark room and closed her eyes.

She could hear the others in their flats beginning to stir for the day. Most of the ones moving now were elderly, too easily roused by the slightest of noises and too used to a routine of waking early. She could also hear the tiny scamper of mice as they moved in the apartment two floors below. She smiled softly to herself. She always liked mice. They were so fun to chase.

Feeling no desire to hunt anything now, she opened her eyes and moved into the rest of her rooms. She still had fifty minutes before she would begin her preparations of rest for the day. She decided to sit in the large red leather wingback chair, her favorite place to sit in her rooms, and reflect a little. For a moment, she let herself linger on the scent of Andris that had not yet left the room. She smiled a little.

Her old Master was unchanged, even after the century and a half since he had ceased being that title. He was still the same creature that required control over everything, over every thought or touch or possession. But now that he did not have the right to control her anymore, he had reevaluated how he would exert his control. He now held her rougher than he had before and was more dominant during their interludes.

Amelia smiled a little to herself. She loved his muscles and the easy strength he had when he held her, or pushed himself into her. He was unique in that regard. He was the only one she allowed to be rough with her; with anyone else, she was in control of things and she did not allow roughness. But with Andris? He made it good. She purred a little at the thought of him controlling her as he had done earlier and found herself enjoying the thought a little too much befitting the early hour of dawn.

Now that she had no longer had any Master and did not require one, Amelia made a tiny happy noise at that thought. She was too independent a creature to need a Master; that was what she had argued then and, if asked, still argued now. Besides, she was no newborn anymore. She was disciplined and controlled from the first few years she had existed in this new life of vampirism.

Amelia opened her eyes and let out a breath. Perhaps she should seek a pet for herself.

At the mention of pets, she shifted in the chair and thought about the train earlier. There had been a human there, one that Amelia had wanted to taste desperately. Her mouth began to water thinking of the scent that the girl, Alison or something, had had about her. She had smelled fresh, delicious.

Usually, Amelia did not entertain the idea of a female pet, she enjoyed sex immensely, but not particularly with females. However, for a moment she did allow the thought to cross her mind. She dismissed it a moment thereafter. No, pets were for entertainment, particularly carnal pleasure. And while that mortal might’ve been pretty and smelled good, she wasn’t what Amelia wanted. If she were to find herself a pet, it would have to be a young man. Just past the teenage years was the better option; it would be easier to excite and to please her. She began to purr low in her throat again in pleasure at the simple thought of a currently-faceless boy being her source of amusement and joy.

Then an idea occurred to her and she ceased her contented purring. It was an idea that started small in the back of her mind, the scenery on the stage rather than the grand performance of the idea of her pet. She encouraged it, curious to see its entire portrayal and she allowed the idea to grow until it covered that simple dream of her own pet.

She smiled to herself as she thought it further through. Yes, that would be perfect, she thought to herself and made a happy noise. Amelia shifted from the chair and went to pick the sheet off the floor. Yes. Alison would become a pet, not hers, but she would just be patient enough to find a suitable vampire to become Alison’s master. It would just take some patience and weeding out for the perfect choice.

That way the human could be nearby and maybe, if Amelia played her hand correctly, she could still have a taste whenever she wanted.

Pleased with herself, Amelia settled in for her rest.

It was not the first time in her life that Alison had ever worked late and she was certain it wasn’t going to be her last. That didn’t mean she liked being the last to leave the office, the last to walk out of the building, and that feeling of being watched even though she knew it was just her nerves getting to her. Alison pulled her coat around her body and sat on a bench and waited for the next bus to arrive. She checked her watch and saw that it was only a little past nine. That wasn’t too bad, she thought and looked up.

There were only a few people on the street, now. There were a few couples walking down the opposite side of the street, one of them had even stopped to look at a window display. The others seemed as intent to get home as she felt and were not stopping to window shop.

Alison wrapped her scarf further around her neck and looked up to the sky. She hoped the bus would come soon. She looked down from the sky when she heard her name. She frowned, thinking at first it had been something she had imagined, but then she heard it again.

She looked down the street and saw nothing. Turning her head, she looked in the opposite direction and saw a vaguely familiar face. She squinted, trying to see from this distance who it was calling her. The strange feeling she had felt the other day returned and she widened her eyes when she did recognize the source of her name. Amelia had returned.

“Hello Alison,” she said when she got closer. “I told you I would see you again.”

“Indeed you did,” Alison nodded and watched Amelia come around to sit next to her. “What brings you around to Cardiff?”

“Well, if I am honest, you do.” Amelia flashed another smile and Alison raised her eyebrow.

“Why?”

Amelia smiled pleasantly again. “Perhaps I took a fancy to you the other evening on the train. Perhaps I am bored. Or perhaps I simply want a new friend. The reason does not matter, all that I know is that I want to befriend you and bring you into my world.”

“Your…world?” Alison repeated slowly, questioningly. Amelia’s head inclined once.

“Yes, my world. Or did you think that your human world was the only one on this planet?” She raised her eyebrow, tilted her head, smiled again, and looked at Alison quizzically. There was a hint of amusement in her eyes as if she knew a great many things that Alison did not know. Alison, confused as she was, tried to place the meaning of Amelia’s words.

“Human world…look lady, I don’t know what drugs you’ve been doing or—” Alison stopped short when she saw right before her eyes Amelia’s smile stayed in place but the top two canine teeth began to grow into sharp points. Into fangs. “Oh God.”

Amelia hummed in amusement. “I am afraid God will not help you, but I can. You see, you could scream, cause a scene, but that would be quite unfortunate and I would have to contain the situation which would mean innocent people would have to die. You seem sweet; I don’t think you would want that on your conscious. Instead of causing a fuss and being an annoyance, you could come with me and no one would have to get hurt, would they?”

“What if I don’t go with you and still don’t scream?” Alison asked quietly, her throat suddenly very dry. She was amazed she could speak at all.

Amelia’s smile darkened somehow, as did her expression. “That is not one of your choices.”

Alison swallowed stiffly. She hoped she could delay long enough for a bus to arrive. Maybe this was all some strange hallucination. It couldn’t possibly be real. Could it?

“Where would you take me?”

“To my home to begin with. Then, I am not yet decided. It would depend on how you react.” Amelia’s voice remained distant as it had from the first moment Alison had ever heard her speak. It was disconcerting to say the least.

“React to what?” Alison asked in a small voice.

“To my true nature.” Amelia replied, smile turning infinitely more mischievous.

Alison could only guess what that meant and she swallowed. “You promise none of these people will get hurt if I go with you?”

“Oh, they will be hurt,” Amelia replied after looking around for a moment. “That is the way of your human life. So sensitive towards things. But I will not hurt them, no. Not tonight. It is only you I have interest in here.”

Alison swallowed before she nodded slowly. “Then I will go.”

Amelia stood and offered her hand. Her fangs retracted and she smiled pleasantly. “That wasn’t so hard, was it?”

Alison wanted to disagree, but in the end she remained quiet. She wondered just what in the world she had stepped in to.
