025. Strangers
Title: Someone New
Characters: Iker Casillas, David Villa, Raul/Guti implied
Rating: PG-13
Prompt: 025. Strangers
Words: 384
A/N: First in this mini-series. =-) There will be five and I hope you like them. =-)
Iker had been on the squad since 2000 and had grown used to seeing the same guys, with the occasional newbie, on the squad. It was nice to see them all together because it felt like no matter where in the world they were, they were all at home.
Raul was captain, and a good one at that. Iker was so used to him being in charge of Madrid that it didn’t seem any different that he captained Spain as well. It was because they were Madridistas that Raul would smile at the keeper fondly and perhaps treat him a little kinder than the others.
This was perhaps why when the new kid, an Asturian striker, joined the squad, Raul asked Iker to be there to greet him also. Iker had agreed because he really wasn’t going to be doing anything that day anyway, and it was always nice to meet someone new.
Iker had walked in, hands in pockets, and had immediately started studying the new kid. He was shorter than he by a few inches and his face was situated into a scowl with such ease that Iker had a sense the kid wore that particular expression on a regular basis.
This was their new striker?
Raul greeted the newcomer, David Villa as Iker found out a minute later, first. When Iker shook his hand, he had a strong grip as if to say that he knew that he wasn’t average.
David looked Iker up and down while Raul asked him about his club and what position he favored. David answered shortly, not in tone but made his answers as minimal as possible.
After the slightly awkward meet-and-greet, Iker and Raul started back out. Raul was going to have lunch with Guti, something not strange at all anymore, and Iker was going to go home.
“Look out for him Iker.” Raul called as Iker started walking in the other direction. “He doesn’t know himself yet.”
Iker didn’t know what he meant, not entirely. He shrugged and agreed. He didn’t know it, but in a few short months after this moment, Raul would be gone and Iker would replaced him as the captain.
For now, though, Iker simply walked back and hugged his captain and promised to watch out for the young Asturian.
