Training over the next few days were tough. Not because of the training style, that never changed and you could either handle it or you couldn’t. Iker had tried to get Villa alone so he could talk to him, but the Asturian was always three steps ahead of him. Even when Iker sent for him, he was either unable to be found or ‘busy’.

Finally Iker stopped trying and had decided to leave the other man alone. At least he could distract himself by playing sport. For three days Iker threw himself into perfecting every aspect of his game. He made sure that he had no faults and not a single shot went by him—not even those from Villa and Fernando.

Every time David’s attempts would be blocked, he gave a nasty scowl in Iker’s direction. The starting keeper tried to ignore each look but found that with each attempt, the scowl intensified.

After training on the fourth day, Iker was tired. A light rain had begun to fall, the cold kind of rain. He wanted to take a warm bath because a hot shower just wouldn’t do it. Then he wanted to relax in bed and just sleep till the time they left tomorrow. However, the coach thought differently. Iker was volunteered to collect the balls that had been used for training.

The rain had picked up and it wasn’t long before Iker’s kit was stuck to him like a second skin. The heat he’d picked up from training made him even more uncomfortable despite the cool sting of the water.

As he was bending down to pick up the last ball, he slipped on the grass and fell with an ‘oomph’ on the ground. Iker, frustrated, sat there staring at the heavens while rain poured down on him.

Iker was having a nice long discussion with God about having one funny sense of humor when a ball hit him in the head. He gave one last scathing glare to the sky before he looked to see why a ball had hit him.

Villa stood less than twenty meters away and was looking at him. For an explanation, he said, “You missed one.”

Iker grumbled and shoved the two balls into the bag before standing up. He was going to walk past the Valencian striker and not say anything because he wasn’t in the mood for a fight and he was too tired to remind himself that he was hurting.

He walked by David without a word. The striker’s hand reached out and caught him by the arm.

“Don’t go.”

“I’m tired David, I want a shower. I don’t feel—”

“Shut up.” David interrupted Iker’s whining session by pulling on his arm. Iker’s momentum swung him into David’s frame. The striker reacted faster than Iker would have expected.

David’s hands cupped Iker’s face as he pressed their mouths together. Iker opened his mouth to protest but Villa’s tongue was already moving his into his mouth. Iker’s eyes were almost comically wide while Villa’s were closed.

Iker decided to virtually say the hell with it and dropped the bag of balls to the ground while his arms went around Villa’s body. The rain fell all around them, but neither cared. All that mattered was the two of them in this moment.

When the kiss broke, Villa buried his face in Iker’s neck while Iker rested his head on top of David’s. Iker didn’t ask why Villa had come back. He really didn’t care, all that mattered was that he was here now.

David pulled back to look in Iker’s eyes. When he didn’t immediately speak, Iker smiled goofily at him while running his fingers in David’s hair.

“I love you.”

Iker’s goofy smile turned into a dopey grin. He leaned in and kissed him happily. David laughed a little as Iker squeezed him.

“I love you too David.”

The rain continued to fall as they held each other close. Never were they going to give the other up. They belonged to each other now, forever.
