Melwood Mission - Ward/Morgan LFC Reserves
Title: Melwood Mission
Characters: Adam Morgan/Danny Ward; surprise pairing at the end ;)
Rating: PG
Words: 1,588
Prompt: Blindfold Kisses
Summary: After following up with the Kop Kids set, the boys get an idea…
A/N: So seriously, these boys are adorable and my warped little brain decided to write a fic about them. You guys need to watch this video because it’s the most awesome thing ever. Hope you like it :) Also, written for
spartan_muse who joined me in my shipping of these two.
Danny knew very well that Adam never liked being blindfolded. It was against his instincts not to be able see what was going on around him. The striker in him was good at picking up on instincts but he still needed to see where exactly he was going and what was occurring around him. Adam never liked having that taken away.
So of course, he took the boy’s sight the moment he could, but in a way that wouldn’t be too obvious, for anyone else or for Adam.
The lads on the reserves were playing a trust game, one that the coaches had some how decided was a good idea. Danny knew nothing about where that idea would’ve come from, honest…
The lads had been paired up; Adam with Danny of course, and they were navigating through the semi-dark halls of Melwood in the exercise. It was a simple drill, really. All they had to do was navigate one half of the pair that was blindfolded through the halls of Melwood, find a different colored Liverpool scarf hidden somewhere in the facility. Upon finding it, they would trade the blindfold and then the other would navigate them back. Simple, really.
Danny had steered Adam away from most of the rest of the group. He knew that on the return trip it would be he who would be blindfolded so he did manage to keep away from stairs most of the time because he might have had a good crush on Adam but he didn’t trust him that much, especially after what he was hoping would transpire in the next half-hour.
“Hang on just a minute lad, I think I heard something…” Danny said before taking a few steps back from Adam. Adam, being Adam, continued on ahead for a bit.
“It’s nothing, let’s just finish this stupid game and go back.” His Scouse accent rang out loud in the empty corridor. Cripes, he really did sound like Carra.
Danny just stood still and was careful not to make any sound at all. He wasn’t even sure if he was breathing anymore just to maintain the silence. He remembered how Adam’s voice sounded during the segment they’d filmed earlier, that questioning needy voice saying his nickname. He wanted to know if it had only been the one time or if Adam really was afraid of being alone without him when he couldn’t see.
“Danny?” Adam turned, wobbled slightly and Danny could see that his head was tilted, listening. “Did the Doctor come and snatch you up or something?”
Danny bit his lip but felt himself smile.
“Wardy?” Adam extended his arms out and tried to reach for him. All he could feel was air. Danny watched him take a step back and almost collide with a statue of Bill Shankly. He stumbled and Danny would’ve laughed if that wouldn’t reveal his position. Even without sight, Adam would still be able to stumble towards him and glomp him for sure.
“Wardy? Lad, this isn’t funny.” When Danny still didn’t say anything, Adam’s tone shifted like it had done during that segment. Danny’s insides twisted. “Wardy? Danny?”
Planning ahead, Danny had worn his quietest shoes. He took a step forward and calculated the move just so that when Adam turned upon hearing the step, he ran smack into Danny’s chest. Danny used the momentum to let himself lean down and place a small kiss on Adam’s lips.
Refusing to let himself regret it, Danny pulled back when he didn’t feel Adam responding back to him. He could always blame it on a misstep, though he was one hundred percent certain Adam would never accept that or let it go. He only hoped that he hadn’t lost a friend because he was feeling overly confident that Adam felt near the same he did.
Danny swallowed hard and licked his lips. Adam tasted the way he’d expected, cheap chapstick and their earlier lunch. He wasn’t fooled though, there was something very specifically Adam in that as well, though.
“Wardy?” Adam asked again, this time reaching out. Danny hadn’t moved, so Adam’s hands clumsily moved over his body. First his chest, then they moved upwards to touch his face. Danny had to close his eyes so that Adam didn’t poke his eyes out and it was very awkward to have his face felt up by his mate, but still Danny stood still and let Adam seek out whatever it was he was looking for. “Wardy, why did you kiss me?”
Danny swallowed. Then he lied. “It was an accident.”
“Didn’t feel like any accident I ever had.” Adam returned quickly.
“You know me,” Danny laughed awkwardly, hoping it would pass. “Always messing up things other people get right. I bet we’re last as well. Come on let’s get going again.”
Adam didn’t move though. Danny swallowed hard when Adam’s hands went around his waist and he pulled him into a hug. This wasn’t the ‘I just scored a goal, let’s celebrate’ type of hug either. This seemed more like the ‘let’s just have a moment here together’ type. Danny much preferred the second over the first.
He let his arms wrap around Adam, hesitantly at first but when Adam tightened his hold around Danny’s body, he let himself hug him closer. This was awkward; two lads, two mates, just hugging in the empty corridor of Melwood. Still, Adam hadn’t pantsed him yet nor did he appear to be crushing his ribs in hopes of breaking him apart. Those were good signs, right?
“Wardy, I don’t think it was an accident. But why would you lie to me?”
Because I think I’m in love with you and we’re both young and dumb and don’t know what those words really mean. Plus you might reject me and I’m afraid of losing you altogether if you do that. I would rather have you in my life as my mate than as a bloke I kissed once and then ignored me for the rest of my life. I couldn’t handle it if you did that. So I lied, lied to protect myself. But fuck if I’m going to tell you all of this, Adam Morgan.
“I don’t know.”
Danny could almost see Adam roll his eyes. Adam’s tone turned a bit whiny.
“Why won’t you just tell me?”
“I—” Danny started and then immediately stopped. He wasn’t sure how to continue at all. He could say only a few things to navigate this minefield he had put himself in and he wasn’t old or mature enough to find the correct footing on this slippery slope. “I just…I just felt like it, okay?”
“Danny, it’s alright. Look, I’m not complaining about it, all right?” Adam felt up his face again to find his lips and then stretched, short arse that he was, stretched until he could kiss Danny himself. Adam barely moved his fingers in time to catch Danny on the lips rather than his own hand.
Danny’s eyes widened when Adam kissed him.
“Told you I wouldn’t complain.” Adam said when, this time it was Danny who hadn’t responded.
Shrugging, Adam turned around and away from Danny. He did reach back and take hold of Danny’s hand though. He took a sure step forward, talking as he went.
“Come on Wardy. Let’s get that bloody scarf before we can get out of here, get some chips, and watch telly. Probably make out a bit during the telly, but I’m willing if you are.” Adam continued by himself and Danny followed without paying attention, a dangerous task when he was the only one that wasn’t currently blindfolded. Adam wanted to watch telly later. And make out. Make out with the telly on. They were still friends then, it seemed. Possibly more. Not a bad development, really.
“Wardy! I need you to guide me. I think we’re near the offices, in which case there’s a really big statue of Shankly around here some—” A loud THUNK signaled that Adam had found the statue in question. Danny let himself release a mix of nervous giggles and relieved laughter, before checking Adam over for any injury. Thankfully there was none.
“That’s your fault Wardy. I’ll get you back when we have to go back down the stairs later.” Adam promised and rubbed his own head.
Danny laughed through his apology but slid his arm around Adam’s shoulder and led the way towards the scarf near the manager’s office. Telly this afternoon didn’t sound like a bad idea. A retort of brilliance crossed his mind and he spoke it to the quietly-complaining Adam.
“I’ll kiss it better later.”
Adam’s complaining stopped quickly thereafter.
“You better. And you’d better do a good job. Otherwise I’ll really push you down several flights of stairs instead of the one.” As the two continued down the corridor, they continued bantering, voices trailing after themselves.

Unseen to the boys, and grateful for that, another Daniel was covering his partner’s mouth with his hand while both tried not to get caught laughing. Martin Skrtel leaned against the wall near one of the trophy cabinets and Daniel Agger supported him. Danny hid his face in Martin’s neck to keep the sniggering to a minimum.
After the boys had gone completely, Martin very quietly spoke, “Ah, young love.” Then he and Daniel both broke into a fit of giggles that they only managed to control when they forgot about the two boys and started to kiss once again.
